Farewell - Kajal Kanti Majumder

Farewell

Farewell is a word
Gloomy and depressing …

One bids farewell to the battle called life,
With victory or defeat.
Wry winter bids farewell too
With the touch of spring.
Burning summer bids farewell
In the cooling monsoons.
The oceans have bid farewell
And receded from the tall mountains.
The new has arrived with the farewell
From the once-modern old times.

Farewell …  to the mother’s lap,
Childhood, teens.
Farewell … to the playgrounds
To the hangouts of the good old days.
Farewell … to the tsunami of living
At the behest of routine and mundane.
Farewell … to the beliefs
In revolts and protests.
Farewell … to the mother and father
And many close to the heart.
Farewell … to cuddling with the
Once new born.

For a while now, in my own busy ways,
Have tried to carve persons out of living things …
Now even this work begs to hang the boots,
Will bid farewell to it, with lots of love from all.
Time to live away from the towering mansion,
In my own little home.
Time to mingle with the swarm of medicines and anecdotes
Knowing a tougher time is arriving slowly,
When I will walk the steps of reality
Into a deep darkness
Bidding farewell to the lap of
The ever-young earth.
